Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation: A new therapeutic option. Study of the first case carried out in the state of Veracruz

Abstract

Aortic valve stenosis is the most common valvulopathy worldwide, as well as in Mexico. The prognosis with medical treatment is unfavorable in the medium and long term, the treatment for more than 50 years has been the surgical valve replacement, and almost a third of the patients were considered at high risk and considered out of management. Since 2012, percutaneous valvular implantation in Mexico has been performed, thus providing a new therapeutic alternative to our patients increasingly established within the cardiological field of our country. Here we present the case of a 74 year-old female with severe aortic stenosis and high surgical risk treated with percutaneous valve implantation, with an adequate clinical outcome. This is the first case treated with this new alternative in the state of Veracruz, Mexico.
