Abstract
This article summarizes the study of risk factors, influence and correlation in alcohol consumption of Guatemalan adults, upon the lack of academic data available. Objective is to stablish a correlation between psycho-social, individual and familiar risk factors, and the problematic intake of alcohol of Guatemalan adults. The method of the study consisted of a quantitative, correlational cross-sectional type, where an instrument prepared in a context similar to Guatemala (Mexico) was adapted; in electro- nic questionnaire format, applied on an intentional sample of adults, whom presented substance use disorders (SUD) and were in abstinence. The sample included women and men, lasted a period of six months; the adapted instrument was the "CODEU-2. Drug Use in University Students ". The results of the study determined that the whole sample showed tendency to compulsive intake, high frequency, high amount consumed and the impossibility of stopping such consumption, once started. In addition to unfinished family and work situations and deep feelings of guilt. Conclusions, the study showed that there is a positive correlation between family dysfunction, lower level of self-esteem, depression and diagnosis of problems of consumption. The results of the instrument will serve as basis for the design and future implementation of a therapeutic, preventive and psychoeducational proposal, under an integrative model.
