The importance of psychological well-being for breast cancer patients

Abstract

The importance of psychological well-being for breast cancer patients

Abstract

Among malignant neoplasms, breast cancer is the one that occurs most frequently in women. Even with its high prevalence, research and interventions in these patients focus, for the most part, on the physical aspects of the disease, leaving aside the psychological and social factors that impact the patient's quality of life. The application of psychotherapy, in its various modalities, has previously demonstrated its effectiveness in reducing depression and anxiety in breast cancer patients, as well as improving their quality of life. The inclusion of psychological aspects as an integral part of breast cancer treatment could bring benefits to both the patient and the health system that treats them.
